While in college, I began my career as the assistant to the Art Director at a Silicon Valley boutique graphics and animation studio. This was an invaluable experience where I honed my design skills and gained firsthand insight into running a small business. I helped to coordinate – and occasionally assisted in creating – 2D and 3D graphics for clients like Stanford University, Alza Corporation, and USGS. One unforgettable project was the opportunity to design a logo for an internal department at NASA; a thrilling opportunity that set an incredibly high standard for the start of my design career.
I continued my broadcast design journey at Phoenix's PBS station, KAET, located on the campus of Arizona State University, where I completed my B.A. degree in Art with an emphasis in Computer Graphics & Animation. I graduated from college and landed a broadcast designer/animator position at Phoenix’s CBS affiliate, KPHO, and later, I worked at the local ABC affiliate, KNXV.
I returned to the San Francisco Bay Area, joining KNTV (NBC) and KBWB (WB) as Senior Designer, soon after advancing to Design Director. I was part of the transition team taking KNTV from an independent ABC station to the NBC affiliate for the Bay Area. As a duopoly station, I managed two design departments 50 miles apart (in San Jose and San Francisco) and created custom news graphics packages, news sets, and show opens. In addition, special projects included designing the visuals for the California Music Awards (the BAMMIES) and the televised San Francisco Pride Parade. I relocated to Sacramento to join the duopoly KCRA (NBC) and KQCA (WB) where I eventually concluded my broadcast design career.
Although I've moved on from specializing in broadcast design, I’m proud of my television portfolio and the skills I developed, such as time management, storytelling, infographic design, 2D animation, and set design. I continue to use these skills in projects, especially in social media, presentation, and exhibit design.
